Depop Fees Explained (2026): What US Sellers Pay on a $40 Sale

Short answer: US Depop sellers pay a 0% selling fee. The only fee on every sale is 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing, charged on the buyer's full total (item + shipping + sales tax). On a $40 item with $6 shipping and 8% tax, that's $2.09, and you keep $43.91 before your costs. If the sale comes through a Boosted listing, add a 12% boosting fee on the item price.

Every number below comes from our Depop fee calculator, using the rates on Depop's official Seller fees and charges page (checked Oct 25, 2026). These are US rates. UK, Australian and other sellers pay different amounts.

How Depop's fees work (US)

Fee Rate (US) Charged on When
Selling fee 0% n/a Never, for US sellers
Payment processing (Depop Payments, via Stripe) 3.3% + $0.45 Item price + shipping + sales tax Every sale
Boosting fee 12% Item price (excluding tax), plus shipping only if you used your own label Only on sales from a Boosted listing

Three details trip people up:

  • "No selling fee" doesn't mean free. Processing is still charged on every Buy-button sale, and it's taken out before your payout lands in your Depop Balance.
  • Processing is charged on tax too. Depop's page says the fee applies to "the item sale price plus shipping costs and any applicable taxes." The tax isn't your money, but you still pay 3.3% on it.
  • Buyers pay their own fee. US buyers pay a Marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item price plus up to $1, excluding tax and shipping (Depop Help: What is the Marketplace fee?). It's added at checkout and doesn't come out of your payout.

Example: a $40 sale with $6 shipping

This is an example, not a real order. You sell a vintage tee for $40. The buyer pays $6 shipping, which covers your Depop Shipping label, plus 8% sales tax. You paid $10 for the shirt.

Example: Depop sale, calculated with the Depop fee calculator
Item price$40.00
Shipping paid by buyer$6.00
Buyer sales tax (8%, remitted by Depop)$3.68
Selling fee (US: 0%)−$0.00
Payment processing (3.3% + $0.45)−$2.09
Total Depop fees−$2.09
Payout from Depop$43.91
Item cost−$10.00
Your shipping label−$6.00
Profit$27.91

The math: ($40 + $6) × 1.08 = $49.68 buyer total, then 3.3% × $49.68 + $0.45 = $2.09. Your payout is $46 − $2.09 = $43.91. After the $10 shirt and the $6 label, your profit is $27.91.

The 8% tax costs you about $0.12 of that fee. With no sales tax, processing on the same sale would be $1.97.

Example: the same sale through a Boosted listing

Same $40 tee, but the buyer saw your Boosted listing before buying. You shipped with a Depop Shipping label, so the 12% applies to the $40 item price only.

Example: Depop sale, calculated with the Depop fee calculator
Item price$40.00
Shipping paid by buyer$6.00
Buyer sales tax (8%, remitted by Depop)$3.68
Selling fee (US: 0%)−$0.00
Payment processing (3.3% + $0.45)−$2.09
Boosted listing fee (12%)−$4.80
Total Depop fees−$6.89
Payout from Depop$39.11
Item cost−$10.00
Your shipping label−$6.00
Profit$23.11

Boosting adds 12% × $40 = $4.80, so total fees rise to $6.89 and profit drops to $23.11. If you'd used your own label instead, Depop charges the 12% on the $6 shipping too: 12% × $46 = $5.52, for $7.61 in total fees and $22.39 in profit. Tick "Shipped with my own label" in the Depop calculator to see that version.

What Depop really costs at different prices

The $0.45 fixed fee matters most on cheap items. Item price only, no shipping or tax, standard US rates, no boost:

Sale price Depop fees You keep Fees as % of price
$10 $0.78 $9.22 7.8%
$20 $1.11 $18.89 5.6%
$40 $1.77 $38.23 4.4%
$75 $2.93 $72.07 3.9%
$150 $5.40 $144.60 3.6%

Above about $50, the effective rate settles close to 3.3% plus a little. Under $15, bundling items into one order helps because the $0.45 is charged once per transaction.

Boosting: when the 12% is worth it

Per Depop's Boosted Listings Policy (effective March 23, 2026, checked Oct 25, 2026):

  • You only pay when a boosted item sells, not for views or clicks.
  • A sale counts as boosted if the buyer saw the Boosted tile and bought within 28 days. They don't need to click it.
  • Unboosting doesn't cancel that window. A buyer who saw the boost before you turned it off can still trigger the fee.
  • "Boost shop" boosts every listing, including new ones you create while it's on.
  • Depop's fee page notes the US/UK 12% rate applies to new listings from March 23, 2026.

A simple test: boosting costs 12% of the price, so on a $40 item it's $4.80. If the item would probably sell within a few weeks anyway, that $4.80 comes straight out of your profit. Boost slow movers and high-margin pieces, not items that already get likes and offers.

Depop fees vs. other platforms

On a plain $40 sale (item price only, no shipping or tax, default settings in each calculator):

Platform Fees You keep
Depop (3.3% + $0.45) $1.77 $38.23
Depop, boosted (+12%) $6.57 $33.43
Mercari (10%) $4.00 $36.00
eBay (13.6% + $0.40, most categories) $5.84 $34.16
Poshmark (20% over $15) $8.00 $32.00

Without a boost, Depop is the cheapest of these four for a $40 sale. Check your own numbers in the Poshmark fee calculator, the Mercari fee calculator, or every platform at once in the reseller fee comparison. Our Poshmark vs Mercari fees guide covers those two in more depth.

Track every sale

Depop's low fees make it easy to forget the costs that actually eat your margin: sourcing, labels, supplies and boosts. The Profit Tracker logs each sale across Depop, eBay, Poshmark and others, so you can see real profit per item and per month.
