Etsy Fees on a $25 Sale (2026): What Etsy Takes and What You Keep

Short answer: On a $25 Etsy sale from a US shop with no shipping charge, no sales tax and no Offsite Ad, Etsy takes $2.83 ($0.20 listing + $1.63 transaction fee + $1.00 payment processing), so you keep $22.17 before your own costs. Charge $5 shipping on an order with 8% sales tax and the fees rise to $3.37. If the buyer came through an Offsite Ad, add 12% or 15% more.

Every number on this page comes from our Etsy fee calculator, which uses the rates in Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy and Etsy Help's payment processing fee table (both checked Oct 26, 2026). These are US rates for shops with a US bank account. Sellers in other countries pay different processing fees.

How Etsy's fees work on a single sale (US)

Fee Rate (US) Charged on When
Listing fee $0.20 Each listing (and each extra quantity sold) When you publish or renew
Transaction fee 6.5% Item price + shipping + gift wrap (not US sales tax) Every sale
Payment processing (Etsy Payments) 3% + $0.25 Order total, including shipping and sales tax Every sale
Offsite Ads fee 15%, or 12% for shops with $10,000+ in sales over 365 days Item price + shipping + gift wrap, capped at $100 per order Only on orders attributed to an Offsite Ad

Three details that change the math:

  • The listing fee is paid up front. Etsy charges $0.20 when you publish a listing, whether or not it sells, and listings expire after four months. If a multi-quantity listing sells, Etsy auto-renews it for another $0.20 per item sold. We count the $0.20 against the sale because, for a one-off item, that's the listing that sold.
  • Shipping is not fee-free. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% processing fee both apply to the shipping you charge. A $5 shipping charge costs you about $0.48 in fees.
  • Processing is charged on sales tax. Etsy's help page says processing is taken "from the item's total sale price, including its shipping fees, and any applicable sales tax." The tax isn't your money, but you pay 3% on it.

Example: a $25 sale with no shipping charge

This is an example, not a real order. You sell a $25 item with free shipping built into the price. To isolate Etsy's cut, we leave sales tax, item cost and label cost at zero.

Example: Etsy sale, calculated with the Etsy fee calculator
Item price$25.00
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5% of item + shipping)−$1.63
Payment processing (3% + $0.25, US)−$1.00
Total Etsy fees−$2.83
Payout from Etsy$22.17

The math: $0.20 + (6.5% × $25 = $1.63) + (3% × $25 + $0.25 = $1.00) = $2.83, about 11.3% of the sale. Your payout is $25 − $2.83 = $22.17.

That $22.17 isn't profit yet. Free shipping means the label comes out of it too.

Example: $25 plus $5 shipping, 8% tax, real costs

This is also an example. Same $25 item, but the buyer pays $5 shipping and 8% sales tax. The item cost you $8 and the label costs $4.50.

Example: Etsy sale, calculated with the Etsy fee calculator
Item price$25.00
Shipping paid by buyer$5.00
Buyer sales tax (8%, remitted by Etsy)$2.40
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5% of item + shipping)−$1.95
Payment processing (3% + $0.25, US)−$1.22
Total Etsy fees−$3.37
Payout from Etsy$26.63
Item cost−$8.00
Your shipping label−$4.50
Profit$14.13

The math: the transaction fee is 6.5% × ($25 + $5) = $1.95. Processing is 3% × ($30 × 1.08 = $32.40) + $0.25 = $1.22. Add the $0.20 listing fee and Etsy's total is $3.37. Your payout is $30 − $3.37 = $26.63 (the $2.40 tax goes to the state, not you), and after the $8 item and $4.50 label your profit is $14.13.

Example: the same sale through an Offsite Ad

Etsy runs ads for your listings on other sites. If a buyer clicks one and orders from your shop within 30 days, that order is "attributed" and pays an extra fee. A shop under $10,000 in yearly sales pays 15%.

Example: Etsy sale, calculated with the Etsy fee calculator
Item price$25.00
Shipping paid by buyer$5.00
Buyer sales tax (8%, remitted by Etsy)$2.40
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5% of item + shipping)−$1.95
Payment processing (3% + $0.25, US)−$1.22
Offsite Ads fee (15%, max $100)−$4.50
Total Etsy fees−$7.87
Payout from Etsy$22.13
Item cost−$8.00
Your shipping label−$4.50
Profit$9.63

The 15% Offsite Ads fee is 15% × $30 = $4.50, so Etsy's total jumps to $7.87 and profit falls to $9.63. At the 12% rate (shops that have passed $10,000), the ad fee is $3.60, total fees are $6.97 and profit is $10.53. You can't see in advance which orders will be attributed, so price your listings with some room for it. Shops under $10,000 can opt out of Offsite Ads. Once a shop passes $10,000, it's enrolled at 12% for good.

Etsy fees at other prices

Same setup as the first example (US, no shipping charge, no tax, no Offsite Ad), run through the same fee engine:

Sale price Etsy fees You keep Fees as % of price
$10 $1.40 $8.60 14.0%
$15 $1.88 $13.12 12.5%
$20 $2.35 $17.65 11.8%
$25 $2.83 $22.17 11.3%
$30 $3.30 $26.70 11.0%
$40 $4.25 $35.75 10.6%
$50 $5.20 $44.80 10.4%

The fixed $0.20 listing fee and $0.25 processing fee hit cheap items hardest. On a $10 sale they add 4.5 percentage points on their own. Below about $20, every $5 you add to the price lowers your fee percentage noticeably.

What changes the number

  • Shipping you charge: adds 9.5% in fees (6.5% + 3%) on the shipping amount.
  • Sales tax: adds 3% processing on the tax amount. On a $30 order at 8% tax that's about $0.07.
  • Offsite Ads: 15% or 12% of item + shipping, up to $100 per order.
  • Refunds: Etsy says the processing fee is credited proportionally on the refunded amount.
  • Outside the US: processing rates depend on your bank account's country. Most EU countries pay 4% + €0.30, for example. Check Etsy's table before you reuse these numbers.
  • Extras we don't model: Etsy Ads (you set the budget), shipping labels bought on Etsy, currency conversion and Etsy Plus subscriptions.

To see what the same $25 item would net elsewhere, run it through the Mercari fee calculator and the eBay fee calculator, or put every platform side by side on the reseller fee comparison. To find the most you can pay for inventory and still hit a target profit, use the max buy price calculator.

FAQ

How much does Etsy take from a $25 sale?

For a US shop with no shipping charge, no sales tax and no Offsite Ad, Etsy takes $2.83: $0.20 listing, $1.63 transaction fee and $1.00 payment processing. You keep $22.17 before your item and shipping costs.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% + $0.25 processing fee both apply to the shipping you charge the buyer, so $5 of shipping adds about $0.48 in fees.

Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?

US sellers don't pay the 6.5% transaction fee on sales tax, but payment processing (3%) is charged on the full order total, including tax.

Can I avoid Etsy's Offsite Ads fee?

Shops that have stayed under $10,000 in sales over any 365-day period can opt out. Once a shop reaches $10,000, it's enrolled at the 12% rate for the life of the shop. The fee is capped at $100 per order.

What percentage does Etsy take overall?

On a plain $25 US sale it's about 11.3%. The percentage is higher on cheaper items because of the fixed $0.20 and $0.25 fees, and much higher on orders that come from an Offsite Ad.
