eBay
- Final value fee for most categories: 13.6% of the total sale amount up to $7,500, plus 2.35% on the portion over $7,500.
- The total sale amount includes the item price, shipping, handling, and sales tax the buyer paid.
- Per-order fee: $0.30 if the order total is $10 or less, $0.40 if it's over $10.
- Exceptions: Books/Movies/Music 15.3%, Trading Cards 13.25%, Guitars & Basses 6.7%, Jewelry 15% (9% over $5,000), Women's Bags 15% (9% over $2,000), Watches 15% up to $1,000 then 6.5% then 3%, Sneakers over $150 8% with no per-order fee.
- These are the rates for sellers without an eBay Store. Store subscribers get lower rates in many categories, and below-standard seller performance can add fees.
Poshmark
- Sales under $15: flat $2.95 fee.
- Sales of $15 or more: 20% commission.
- Listing is free. The buyer pays the prepaid shipping label (currently $6.49 for up to 5 lb), so shipping isn't part of your earnings.
- If you offer discounted shipping, put what you cover in “Your shipping cost”.
Mercari
- 10% selling fee on the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping.
- No separate payment processing fee for sellers.
- Buyers pay a separate buyer protection fee, which doesn't come out of your earnings.
- Getting paid: direct deposit is free, Instant Pay costs $3 (not included above).
Which one should you list on?
- Lowest percentage: Mercari's 10% is the lowest of the three, and there's no separate payment processing fee.
- Shipping: eBay and Mercari charge their fee on the shipping the buyer pays; Poshmark's buyer always pays the label, so a Poshmark sale has no label cost for you.
- Sales tax: eBay's fee is on the total amount of the sale, including sales tax the buyer pays. Poshmark and Mercari don't charge their fee on tax.
- Cheap items: under $15 Poshmark charges a flat $2.95, which is a large share of a $5–$10 sale.
